I'm getting really excited about this, putting together fun rewards and cool assets. I'm working with multiple artists this time, but keeping the tradition of having my daughter Coryn design the main swag reward sticker.
Want to see it? Well, it's right here, so you probably already have let your eyeballs flick down to it, but this is its official introduction:
Poor little Phoenix has been through a lot, but he always reignites.
After polling the Kickstarter's followers, we have decided that the earlybird reward will be a free additional short story (delivered in Ebook format) to all backers who back in the first 72 hours. I'll have more info about this later, but if you want that short story, make sure you go to the Kickstarter and click "Notify Me On Launch" so you don't miss it.
Cloaked Legends: The Devoted blends heart-pounding action with emotional depth, time-spanning legend retellings, and the eternal battle between good and evil. Sale Ends Nov 1
Bound By Fire is a slow-burn, closed-door paranormal romance featuring a dragon king hero, fated mates, forbidden love, ancient magic, and high-stakes adventure.
If you are in driving distance of Charleston, WV, consider dropping by to see me at West Virginia Book Festival today. There are a lot of awesome authors in attendence including my friends C.O. Bonham, Janeen Ippolito, and Sarah Delena White ... oh and some guy named R.L. Stine who I have been told is such a draw they had to put his signing event behind a raffle.
Riders of the Apocalypse: Complete Epic Fantasy Book Series
An angel, an ex-god, & a dragon take on the riders of the apocalypse in 4 humorous epic fantasy adventure books.
I saved this for last because I had already pre-arranged to feature a bunch of author friends, and I couldn't go back on that, but I also couldn't dump something sad on you then turn around and go into book-promo mode... but I figure enough of you know/care about my cats that you'd want to know.
We did lose Alfred this month. It was a long time coming. We've known since a little after we got him that Alfred (or more officially Sir Alfred Pennyworth) was FeLV positive. We've lost cats to that before and know how it progresses. He still lived a very good life.
I always called Alfred our "Gentleman Hobo" cat. He was a city cat through and through and honestly did not like us moving to West Virginia very much. He used to go out and roam the neighborhood back in Oregon, flirting with everyone, driving off other cats.
We got him when we saw on a neighborhood Facebook group that he was trying to break into a house down the road and bothering the owner's cat. I showed Matt his picture and Matt said, "That looks like a good cat," so we just drove down and picked him up.
Bucking the Orange Cat stereotype, Alfred always had the vibe of an independent, slightly grumpy old man who took himself very seriously. He tolerated our other cats, but was definitely the least gregarious. He liked to be held and would sometimes sleep on the bed with us or the girls, but often would disappear for periods of time (we never quite broke him of his alley cat habits to make him a fully indoor cat).
He was a good boy, though, and we'll all miss him.

H.L. Burke, Author Free Copy of Beggar Magic ~ My Site ~ New Release ~ Substack I've been reading a book about authory stuff Like maybe that sounds like a given, but I'm actually not a big non-fiction reader, and I don't read a lot of craft books. I've always just kind of done my own thing no matter what. Like if you asked me my favorite books on writing, I would not be able to think of any I've read since high school that really made an impression... and most of those were text books. But...
H.L. Burke, Author Free Copy of Beggar Magic ~ My Site ~ New Release ~ Substack I have another book written! So a little while back, I got asked to participate in a Multi-Author Series of cozy fall fantasies themed around the moon. The collection won't be out until next fall, but I don't like having that sort of thing undone, so I went ahead and wrote mine... A STEAMPUNK FAIRY TALE RETELLING! (Gasp, not superhero? I know! What's happened to me?) And now I'm seeking Beta Readers! If you want a...
