Why Kickstarter?
Frankly, it's the only way I can afford to do anthology projects like this.
I'm paying the authors outright for their stories. I'm paying for cover design. I do the editing myself so that's covered, but yeah, I'm already out a good deal of cash pre-launch with these. If it wasn't for the support of epic backers, I wouldn't be able to commit to projects like this. They'd simply be too expensive and earn the money back far too slowly (as cool as I personally think Anthologies are, they are actually fairly hard to make a profit on compared to a book I put out all by myself.).
Also stretch goals let me do extra shiny things like hire illustrators for the books to be super pretty. I'll be working with multiple illustrators this time, and if we hit our stretch goals, preview art over the next few weeks. One is, of course, my daughter, and I've already previewed the art she did for the Phoenix sticker, but I'm also in contact with 3 other awesome artists to do hand/human made art for us!
