First off, this is Alfred

Aflred is our oldest and largest cat. He's got a lot of attitude. He likes to roam. He gets REALLY grumpy if you stop him from going outside for more than a day or two. While I very much prefer to have my cats be indoor only, we lost that battle a long time ago with Alfred. He does what he wants.

And "what he wants" sometimes means disappearing on us. He's occasionally stepped out for a stroll and not returned for a couple of days.

This time, though, the little hoodlum was gone for over two months. (!!!)

It happened before we got Belle or Rosalee, but after we had brought home Kirby and Fade. At first, Matt and I thought he was just mad at us for introducing other cats into the house (he's been living with Vivian for a couple of years, but between December and February, we added Prism, Kirby, and Fade to the family), because he's not really a "cat's cat." He likes his space.

When weeks crept on without seeing him, we started to give up hope.

Then, in mid-May, the little monster just shows up at our door like nothing was wrong. No injuries. Still well fed/fattened up. Still wearing his flea collar. We suspect a neighbor might've taken him inside and just kept him, but we're glad to have him home.

If you can at all, keep your cats indoors. I'm determined never to let Prism and Fade, who are my babies, see the outside world because once cats get a taste for roaming, they are sneaky and persistent and will pull all kinds of tricks to get out there.
